Lauren is a Texas girl, born and raised. After growing up in the Dallas area, she headed to the beautiful (bahhahhha! – kidding!) city of Lubbock for her Bachelors degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development & Family Studies from Texas Tech University. A few unfulfilling years in the corporate world led Lauren back to her original passion for helping others.  She applied to UNT’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and the rest is history. She is currently finishing up her LPC internship hours at LifeWorks – and we are lucky to have her!! (In case you’re wondering, it’s mathematically impossible to have too many panhandle girls on one staff – see staff bio for Melanie Wells.)

Since Lauren’s parents divorced when she was two, she lived many of the challenges and obstacles faced by families of divorce, and considers herself stronger and wiser for it.  Growing up in a blended family, Lauren divided her time with her parents intelligently: she ditched Texas to spend summers with her father and step-mother in Seattle (you know — rain, trees, lots and lots of coffee) but lived with her mom and step-father in Texas the rest of the year (you know – no rain, no trees, lots and lots of iced tea). She hopes to use her personal experience as a kid of divorce, along with her extensive clinical training, to help both children and parents with the challenges and opportunities that a blended family situation can bring.

Lauren loves to work with children, so child counseling & play

therapy seemed a natural course for her to follow. And, luckily, UNT is THE place to be for play therapy! Lauren’s work at the Center for Play Therapy at UNT gave her a unique perspective into the power of play therapy for children –  kids who would otherwise be unable to express themselves.  She also works with the uncommon but not rare disorder trichotillomania - compulsive hair-pulling.  She and our senior therapist Jennifer Landon are both on a short list of clinicians who specialize in working with trich.

Another passion of Lauren’s is her work with tweens and teens. Her weekly teen group provides a safe, supportive environment for teens to explore steadfast teen issues, as well as those facing them in today’s uncharted world of the internet and social media. Lauren also works with tweens and teens individually.

Life comes with roadblocks and obstacles, and Lauren works collaboratively with men and women to develop coping skills and ways to manage anxiety and depression in their everyday lives.

Lauren currently lives in the Dallas area with her smart and supportive husband and two kitties, Crazy and Lazy. Her brilliant 11-year-old step-daughter is with them every weekend, helping Lauren’s interest in blended families and co-parenting become even more relevant in her everyday life.

Lauren loves to travel, cook, knit, and get lost in a novel on a rainy afternoon. In her limited spare time, she feeds her other creative passion by designing unique invitations and stationary.
