Madeline Buckthal

Madeline grew up in Amarillo, the heart of the Texas Panhandle (tumbleweeds, anyone?), before moving down to Austin for high school. She made it to Dallas, her favorite Texas city – (it’s literally her middle name!) to attend SMU for an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Cultural Anthropology. While she was at SMU, Madeline did an undergraduate internship right here at LifeWorks. Lucky for us, she stuck around SMU to get her Masters degree in Counseling and came back to Lifeworks for her masters level internship.

During her time at boarding school in Austin, Madeline first-handedly experienced the true life of “Mean Girls” and vowed to some day become the counselor she badly needed during those tough adolescent years. She enjoys working with teens and families, as well as adults. She is also working towards her LCDC (Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor) to work with clients and their families experiencing substance abuse and addiction.

Madeline believes that the counseling relationship must be based on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. In addition to using therapeutic activities, she incorporates mindfulness into her work with clients. Madeline believes life is about finding the positives everyday in a world that can feel overwhelmingly negative. This belief guides her work with her clients.

When she isn’t working, you can find Madeline playing with her dog, Chili, working out at various studios around Dallas, needlepointing, or practicing calligraphy. True to her West Texas roots, she loves fly-fishing, hiking and just about anything involving the great outdoors (we think she’s pretty well-rounded). Madeline is also a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys – maybe this will finally be their year?

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes.
