Get to know Amy

Amy Salinas works out of our Richardson location and is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. After benefiting greatly from her own therapeutic experience, Amy decided she wanted to pursue a degree in counseling herself. Amy earned her Bachelor of Science in Development and Family Studies with an emphasis on Early Childhood Development and Intervention from the University of North Texas. Later, she earned her Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary

Amy specializes in working with children and adolescents ages 3-18. She also enjoys working with adults, groups, and families. Amy gained her clinical experience working at the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Collin and Rockwall Counties providing therapy to children, adolescents, and adults in individual, family, and group settings. There, she worked with individuals who experienced traumatic events, abuse, neglect, and domestic violence. Amy has also worked in private practice where she treated clients dealing with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and blended families needing support during their co-parenting journey

Amy often utilizes play therapy and activity-based therapy with children and teens. She has been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), two modalities that are evidence-based for treating traumatic events. She was also part of a pilot training program on Phase Based Treatment for Problematic Sexual Behaviors in Young Children. This program trained clinicians to treat problematic sexual behaviors in children ages 3-12, and partners with parents to help children learn appropriate boundaries in their sexual development. Amy uses an individualized approach to best serve the needs of each client. Additionally, Amy also offers Christian counseling upon request.

Amy believes that growth occurs within the context of relationships and hopes to provide a safe and supportive counseling relationship for each client she sees in order to help clients work to change negative thought patterns and heal from traumatic events. She enjoys partnering with her clients to help them learn to cope with life’s challenges and make positive changes to their negative thought patterns about themselves and life’s circumstances. Amy is grateful to be able to help clients find renewed hope and joy in life on their journey towards healing! Beyond counseling, Amy is a wife, mother of one biological child, and step-mother to two twin, teenage daughters. Amy loves traveling with her family, especially to the beach and to New York State to visit her extended family. She also enjoys scrapbooking as well as taking A LOT of photos. Amy enjoys baking, especially at the holidays, where she makes pies from scratch; a tradition she has been able to pass along to her daughters.
