Get to know Kaitlin

Kaitlin received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina State University in 2021. She helps her clients discover healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their interpersonal relationships. Kaitlin is particularly interested in working with couples and LGBTQ+ individuals. She has previous experience working with clients around depression, anxiety, trauma, self-image/self-compassion, career/academic stress, life transitions, relationship issues, gender and sexuality, and identity formation.

She uses EMDR and a Cognitive-Behavioral framework to inform her practice. Kaitlin has completed EMDR training with the EMDR International Association. EMDR is often used to treat PTSD or other traumas but can also reduce anxiety, depression, and other symptoms. EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences to bring these to an adaptive resolution. Working within the CBT framework, Kaitlin helps clients identify their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and develop a personalized toolkit of coping strategies to utilize in changing their behaviors.

She aims to provide a safe, affirming, and empowering space for clients to process and make progress. As a queer person, Kaitlin uses her own lived experiences to help create an affirming and non-judgemental space for clients of all cultural backgrounds and identities. She is also consistently seeking ways to further her understanding and become more intersectional and inclusive in her practices. This allows the client and counselor to develop an empathic and non-judgemental relationship to improve one's mental well-being.

The therapeutic relationship is a partnership, and her role is to get a better understanding of how you approach life and how that approach helps or hinders goals you hope to achieve. Kaitlin utilizes Attachment-Based approaches when working with individuals and couples.  Kaitlin has experience working with monogamous, ethically non-monogamous, and polyamorous couples and addressing the unique needs of these dynamics. It can feel so difficult to take that first step and reach out to see how we might work together to achieve your goals.

During her free time, Kaitlin enjoys reading, listening to her vinyl collection, and spending time with her partner and friends. She is often taking care of her houseplants or binge-watching a new TV series. She also loves to travel and has been to 40 states and 5 countries and hopes to continue to experience new places and cultures.
