OCD Counseling

When does perfectionism become an obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD?

Is the need to control everything or have everything perfect, negatively impacting your life?

Lifeologie Counselors can help overcome perfectionist tendencies and reign in OCD. Counseling for OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) includes an evaluation of the current situation and identification of what sets off the OCD. OCD counseling will help if your perfectionism has begun to impact multiple aspects of your life.

What is OCD?

OCD and perfectionism are not one and the same. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder impacts one’s life almost all the time, whereas perfectionistic behaviors are simply a personal preference and do not control one’s actions. While an OCD person may be described as a perfectionist, in reality, the person doesn’t have full control over the behaviors. When these perfectionist tendencies take over one’s life, then there is a need for OCD counseling.

Key parts of OCD

There are two key parts of OCD

  1. Obsessive thoughts
  2. Compulsive (or uncontrollable) actions

Obsessive thoughts may include fear of not being safe unless some ritual is performed or of simply going insane. The compulsive actions could be incessant hand-washing, cleaning, reorganizing, or touching certain objects.

Through OCD therapy the obsessive-compulsive thoughts and behaviors can be managed. Quality care begins with counseling. Should you believe a loved one or yourself is struggling with OCD, contact Lifeologie Counseling Grand Rapids for a consultation or to schedule an appointment.
