Getting to Know Briana
Born in Alaska and cultivated amongst her three brothers and three sisters in the faraway lands of Azerbaijan, Brazil and Indonesia, Briana was raised for adventure. She isn’t easily intimidated by the tides of change and delights to provide a safe harbor for those lost in the waves. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Texas A&M (whoop!) with the highest honors. The study of philosophy equipped Briana to handle the abstract with wisdom and enhanced her ability to solve complex problems.
In high school, she was chosen amongst her peers to receive the AP Psychology Award and went on to foster that strength through her college minor in psychology. After spending time on opposite sides of the career spectrum as a second-grade teacher and then as a computer programmer, she completed a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Amberton University.
At a Glance
Foremost, Briana specializes in working with children (ages 3+), tweens and teens, and enjoys working with whole families. She is also especially inclined toward working one-on-one with women who’ve been through trauma or abuse, struggle with self-harm, or have a history of eating disorders. Her passion is to bring healing to the minds of troubled children and provide safe places of healing for women and families.
Briana has had her own personal seasons of mental health issues, including those of her son’s, and can provide a humble and non-judgmental atmosphere to all who are needing help.
Approach & Style
Truly, one of Briana’s greatest joys are the moments of unraveling that take place during therapy with a child. Greatly moved by the beauty of a resilient young heart, Briana is in awe of a child’s built-in ability to overcome deep distress and rise up above life’s challenges, victorious. She specializes in play therapy by connecting with children and fostering the appropriate relationship conducive to processing the inevitable troubles of life.
During her practicum at a Christian private practice, she learned spiritual techniques (also known as “inner-healing”) for healing disorders such as those related to trauma, depression, and anxiety. These services are available during individual therapy when requested (typically for ages 7+).
When not in play with children at the office, Briana can be found in play with her own littles — Finn & Fern — or at the lake in a kayak with the whole family. She adores a precious mini goldendoodle, Ruby, who we hope to be part of the therapy team in the future! Briana is honored to be part of a lively local church family.
