Karlos believes in the beauty of a sound mind and mental clarity, knowing the way we live successfully correlates with how we think and feel. Karlos also sees the importance of the holistic approach to mental health. He recognizes the connection between the physical, spiritual, and mental aspects of the human experience, and wants to see individuals balance and succeed in each area for optimum wellness. Core to Karlos’ belief is the truth that when we change our brains, we change our lives and each person has a specific purpose for living.
Karlos desires to integrate various counseling modalities in serving his clients in practice of Person-Centered Therapy, Existential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and faith-based integrations. His desire to cultivate varying counseling methods comes from his integrated psychotherapy education at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). During his time at DTS, Karlos became intrigued by the multiplicity of ways to help an individual discover wholeness and purpose. He seeks to use every tool at his disposal to aid in that discovery.
Karlos is a true Southerner. Born and raised in Tennessee, he moved to Mississippi as a pre-teen, and finally moved west, with his lovely wife, to Texas in 2016. He considers himself a “Tenne-Missi-Texan” and considers each state instrumental in his formation, identity, and affinity for his deep Southern roots.
In light of the systemic racism and oppression of people of color in America, Karlos sees the increasing need for mental health advocacy in Black and Brown communities. Racial trauma, health disparities, and lack of access are common road blocks for many communities of color. Karlos seeks to champion mental health advocacy as one tool in the fight against oppression.
