Meaningful Progress” and “Progress is not Perfection” are the themes Shanelle injects into each session on her counseling journey as well as her personal path. She understands life brings many uncertainties and challenges, therefore providing focused and customizable treatment to people from all walks of life will lead to meaningful progress. It’s not perfect, but purposeful.

Shanelle has over 13 years of experience as a counselor. Shanelle believes access to health and helping services should be available to everyone. She is an advocate for individuals who are presented with many barriers that prevent them from living a healthy and productive life in their community.

Her passions are helping individuals who have experienced trauma, substance use treatment and addiction, adolescent development, parenting intervention, minority parenting, coping with parental and personal stress, childhood behavior and education interventions, anxiety and depression. Her counseling methodology lends itself to marginalized minorities, cultural, relationship and group counseling. She utilizes a variety of techniques during specialized sessions focusing on health and wellness, adults experiencing life transition and relationship pressures.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, spent a few years of her early childhood in sunny California and Germany, transitioned back to St. Louis, Missouri where she entered adulthood and later start referring to herself as a “Texan”, where she and her young family now call home.

Many children wrestle with what they want to be when they grow up, not Shanelle. Her calling and purpose in life was to always counsel in some shape, form or fashion. Whether that meant being the voice of reason with her two younger siblings, giving solid dating advice to her cousins, being a listening ear to her friends or simply a strong, but gentle shoulder for a stranger, Shanelle was born to advise, guide and enlighten people on their paths to progress in life.

Shanelle’s passion for progress started to become more attainable as she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and soon after, a Master of Science in Counseling from Webster University. Shanelle is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Texas and Missouri. She is a Board Certified Counselor (NBCC) and a Master Addiction Counselor (NAADADC).

Shanelle was more than eager to begin utilizing her natural born “gifts for progress” as well as the education she worked so hard to earn. She started her career with one of the largest, most well-known institutions in the Midwest in the behavioral health sector. The experience she gained from working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness, developing treatment plans and providing symptom management interventions to promote client independence and encourage stability, all gave her the foundational tools and knowledge to explore other possibilities within the realm of counseling. Through the years, she’s also provided her, “Progress, not Perfection” techniques through intensive, in-home crisis intervention practices for children and families via a state-based social services program, problem resolution counseling for employees and immediate family members, developed clinic treatment protocols and procedures, while focusing on a client-centered environment.

Although Shanelle has achieved many milestones while on her professional journey, she continues to sharpen her skills and expand her counseling knowledge through numerous trainings, endless hours of readings, valuable peer networking, and by walking in her faith.

She is elated to partner with Lifeologie Counseling Cedar Hill to not only continue carrying forward its tradition of offering therapeutic, creative and collaborative solutions, but to also ensure meaningful progress on the “not so perfect” path of life.
