Getting To Know Calvin

Calvin grew up in the Lake Highlands neighborhood of Dallas. Although he was a shy kid, he developed an early passion for spending time and connecting with others. A graduate of  Texas Tech University (gotta love beautiful, windy Lubbock!) Calvin earned a BA in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies and an MA in counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary.

One of Calvin’s unique gifts is his unwavering hope for others. This hope, coupled with his compassion for people gives him a deeply held belief that each individual has the potential to overcome obstacles.

Looking for An Addictions Counselor in Plano or Richardson?

Calvin’s desire to become a counselor was sparked by the incredible change counseling made in his own life. During a long struggle with anger, fear, sadness, and family issues, he sought therapy and began to see positive changes in his life when his anger and sadness began to dissipate. Along with his professional work at various substance abuse and eating disorder facilities, he can personally testify firsthand about the positive influence of a good dose of psychotherapy – especially for adult children of alcoholics.

Calvin specializes in addiction, depression, adult children of alcoholics, survivors of abusive families, relationship issues, divorce recovery, and Christian counseling.

When he is not reading or studying for class, he enjoys exercise, Netflix, eating Italian food, spending time with family, friends, and walking his two dogs. Calvin’s mantra, often heard by his client’s, is that “suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, character produces hope, and hope does not lead us to shame. Whereas the avoidance of suffering leads to shame.” As mentioned, Calvin’s unwavering hope for others allows him to challenge his clients while providing a helping hand in the person’s journey.
