Pharmocogenetic Testing

Welcome to the future!

Until recently, trial and error was the only way to find out if your body would tolerate a given psychotropic medication, much less metabolize it effectively to treat the symptoms you’re experiencing.

With the development of DNA testing, it is now possible to examine how your body will process various medications just by collecting a sample of saliva. Not. Kidding.

In collaboration with Dr. Brian Forsythe, DO and Dallas TMS, Lifeologie is now offering Pharmacogenetic testing. Finding out how your body processes various psychiatric medications is unbelievably simple and affordable.

Pharmaco-What Now?

Tempus genetic testing examines how your genes may affect your body’s response to medications that are commonly prescribed for depression and other psychiatric conditions. The test results (in combination with your clinical history) can be used by your physician to guide medication selection.

The report provided to you will also provide your physician with information on gene-drug interactions to supplement the DNA results. You and your physician can make a much more informed decision about which medications are best for you.

How Does Pharmacogenetic Testing Work?

For existing clients:

  1. Call us or connect with your counselor in order to request a test. We will set up an appointment with you to complete the necessary paperwork.
  2. We will provide you with a testing kit at the appointment. You will provide your saliva sample, and we will mail the test kit for you.
  3. Once the sample is received by Tempus, they will perform a genetic test and summarize the results. Those results will be sent to our psychiatric nurse practitioner, Dr. Brandon Respress, NP.
  4. Our office will call to schedule an appointment with you, in which Dr. Respress will go over your results with you, explain your report, and answer any questions you may have. These results will enable your provider to make the most informed decision regarding your medical treatment.

For new clients:

  1. Call us or complete the form on this page to let us know you’d like to schedule an appointment to begin the DNA testing process.  We will schedule a 30-minute intake with you during which we will gather the psychiatric and medical history needed to supplement your DNA results. During that appointment, we will work with you to fill out the necessary forms.
  2. We will provide you with a testing kit at the appointment. You will provide your saliva sample, and we will mail the test kit for you.
  3. Once the sample is received by Tempus, they will perform a genetic test and summarize the results. Those results will be sent to our NP, Dr. Brandon Respress.
  4. Our office will call to schedule an appointment with you, in which Dr. Respress will go over your results with you, explain your report, and answer any questions you may have. These results will enable your provider to make the most informed decision regarding your medical treatment.
