Get to know Avis
Avis is a fourth-generation Texan, born and raised in San Antonio. She received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech in Theater. She spent many years working for Young Life, using theater as outreach with high school students. Eventually, Avis received her Master of Fine Arts in Theater Education from UT-Austin and taught theater in Dallas for ten years. She enjoyed empowering students and encouraging them to identify their unique gifts.
So why is Avis currently a therapist and not a teacher?
Amid work, marriage, and parenting — depression and anxiety showed up. Avis struggled with feelings of inadequacy, fear of failure, people-pleasing, and shame. Unresolved issues from childhood and trauma impacted her ability to live at peace with herself and in connection with her family. Thankfully, she sought help and experienced the transformative power of therapeutic care. After receiving her MSW from the University of Texas in Arlington, Avis is now passionate about providing life-changing support to others.
Avis is interested in working with individuals and couples impacted by anxiety, depression, trauma, intimacy challenges, toxic relationships, and disruptions in family functioning.
Avis values using integrative therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples to reduce conflict.
Her approach is highly interactive and engaging. Avis believes non-judgmental feedback and skill-building are essential to the healing process. Driven by ethics, creativity, and compassion, Avis takes pride in creating a safe place that genuinely accepts and respects all life experiences.
Avis enjoys travel, long walks, and leisurely meals with loved ones in her free time. Still passionate about the arts, Avis volunteers with community organizations to create artist development programs.
She is delighted to be with Lifeologie.
