Get to know Jakayla

Originally from North Carolina, Jakayla moved to Dallas in 2018 to pursue her education in Counseling and Psychology at Dallas Baptist University. She is passionate about people and has served in several programs and departments throughout her time at DBU, fostering life-changing relationships with her peers and mentees in a Resident Assistant role, as a Living-Learning Mentor, and through other service projects.

Jakayla believes that counseling is a place for people to find healing and restoration. She also believes that therapy is a collaborative process between client and counselor to empower clients to take transformative steps in their lives.

By creating a safe, honest, and nonjudgmental space, the counselor and client embark on a journey to find the necessary tools to develop healthy habits in an individual's life. Jakayla’s mission is to help people find healing in light of who they are. She aims to create safe and nonjudgmental environments and generate positive goals that lead to life-changing results.

In her free time, Jakayla enjoys traveling, reading books, spending time with friends and family, and experiencing new things.
