Get to know Kimvy
A San Antonio, Texas native, Kimvy has been an educator for 12 years and a therapist intern for 2 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from St. Mary’s University, a master’s degree in Education from Wayland Baptist University-Altus, and a Ph.D. in Education, concentrating in International Education & Entrepreneurship, from the University of the Incarnate Word. Her doctoral research studied the multicultural dynamics in families and storytelling as a form of communication. She is currently a Marriage and Family Therapy graduate student at Northcentral University.
Growing up, Kimvy sought out education as a form of success and a way to make her hardworking parents proud- something children of immigrants know much about! Therapy helped her become more reflective about her choices and what made her really happy. Now, Kimvy helps her clients reach their own unique version of success, so pride comes from within rather than from others.
She uses Contextual Family Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy models to give clients the support they need to make positive changes to trust themselves and their loved ones more as well as to make relationships feel fair and balanced. Kimvy sees clients of all ages who reside in Louisiana, especially individuals struggling with identity development, and families and couples who need an impartial professional to listen. Being a military spouse, mother, and the oldest sibling herself, Kimvy knows life can get busy. To be more flexible, she offers virtual therapy sessions.
Kimvy has an ant farm (her daughter’s "dream" when she was 7!), and her guilty pleasure is watching The Real Housewives.
