Getting to Know Ashley
Ashley grew up in the beautiful Cumberland area of Kentucky and moved to Dallas after a short stint living abroad in Asia. While getting her master’s degree in counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary, she married and started what would quickly become a full house of boys (3 within 4 years, in fact!). Ashley’s personal journey and struggles with postpartum anxiety has grown her passion for healthy marriages and families.
Courage to Be Seen
Across rural America, abroad and in Dallas, Ashley had the opportunity to observe the stigma associated with counseling. Clients often come in feeling they have lost some sense of control and are weak but Ashley’s wants to create a new reality that no one has it together, and those who take steps toward therapy exhibit strength. She believes it takes an inordinate amount of courage to allow another person to see one’s life exposed. Ashley’s goal is to provide encouragement, safety, and unconditional acceptance to the couples and adults that make the necessary steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
Approach and Experience
Ashley is now working towards a certification in Gottman Marital Therapy and is currently a certified instructor for Prepare and Enrich, a marriage preparation and relationship enrichment course. She is able to also offer premarital counseling a registered provider for TwoGetherInTexas. Her approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy with attachment theory to allow clients to understand their narratives and gain the tools to shape them.
Ashley has success working with couples who are struggling with communication, conflict resolution, infidelity and regaining trust. She also works well with mothers of young children and with young adults struggling with singleness and family issues. Her past experiences range from anxiety, depression, grief, past abuse, trauma, to codependency, and addictions. Having married into the Asian culture, Ashley is very familiar with it and the issues that come along with multicultural families.
In her free time, she loves to travel to new places, eat at hole-in-the-wall restaurants or just cuddle up in overstuffed chairs and read.
