Get to know William
William Wiant was born in Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation, grew up in El Paso on the US-Mexico border, lived in England, and has visited many countries including the many trips he has taken to lead groups of high school students to Europe. He earned his undergraduate at the University of North Texas in biology with minors in chemistry and Spanish. He continued his undergraduate research to earn a Master of Science in Biochemistry. Since then, he has primarily been a high school science teacher. He completed his Master of Arts in Professional Counseling at Amberton University.
Collectively, his experiences across the world have taught him to appreciate the rich differences in cultures. He has also learned that, despite obvious differences, people from around the world are much more similar than different. The issues that individuals face throughout their lives transcend culture and geography. The human experience is universal.
He works with adolescents, teenagers, adults of all ages, and couples who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, LGBTQ+ and gender issues, addictions, burnout, marriage issues, domestic violence, grief, etc.
Working in the mental health field is not new to William. In 2014, he founded and continues to run a weekly support group, in a non-professional capacity, which has grown to currently have around 1,200 current members in the North Dallas area. Living with Depression Support Group is a nonprofessional group of like-minded individuals who meet weekly online to listen and be heard. New members often find themselves opening up and sharing personal feelings they haven’t even told their loved ones because the group is nonjudgmental, supportive, and understanding on a level many do not have the fortune to experience. The overwhelming success of this support group was a large factor in motivating him to begin transitioning out of the classroom and into a counseling room.
When not working, he spends as much time as possible with his family. This may be attending volleyball games or track meets or, when possible, traveling on a long road trip or flying overseas as much as possible.
