Sports performance counseling explores the psychological factors that may prevent elite athletes from reaching their highest potential. Nutrition and conditioning are key to building endurance and strength, but sports performance counseling helps build resilience, increase focus, and boost confidence – key factors in maintaining motivation and developing the grit to both endure and rise from a slump.
Sports performance counselors teach athletes practical techniques they can use before and during their events, such as visualization, increased concentration, and pre-performance rituals that help athletes focus on achieving their goals and managing their fears, anxieties, or unexpected failures. Research shows that the conditions that lead to sports performance anxiety are the same ones that lead to injury, underscoring the importance of getting to the bottom of those gremlins.
Athletes and artists who are recovering from injuries uniquely benefit from sports performance therapies that help them manage painful rehabilitation or chronic conditions that may require a modified physical and mental approach to achieving their performance goals.
