Get to know Aaron
Aaron looks forward to being a collaborator with you on your journey through any and all life challenges that you are facing. Having personally received the gift of therapy to navigate painful dark periods of his own life, Aaron understands the extremely personal and powerful journey that transformative counseling can bring about. He relies on an Existential Humanistic approach to counseling, collaboratively exploring the meaning that you give to your experiences. He also utilizes techniques from his training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
As a graduate student at The University of North Texas and a full-time employee of a local psychiatric hospital, Aaron gained valuable counseling experience working with adults of all ages across the lifespan. He has experience working with adults and couples with depression, anxiety, trauma (ongoing, recent, and/or past), and eating disorders, in addition to working with the specific and unique needs of marginalized groups, including the LGBTQ+ community. His therapeutic style focuses on the therapeutic relationship and creating a safe nonjudgmental space for all individuals and couples.
Aaron Powell was uprooted frequently as a child, living in 7 different cities before entering the 5th grade. After finally settling in DFW, he began to deal with the consequences of childhood turbulence and trauma. A strong drive to help others developed as Aaron found fulfillment assisting friends who were grappling with the loss of parents, drug addictions, and mental health diagnoses. As he entered college, Aaron sought to make the world a better place by becoming a public school educator. As an educator for 6 years, he saw an immense and desperate need to help others in a greater way and entered the mental health field.
Aaron spends his free time with his beloved wife of 7 years and their two dogs. They are avid music lovers who can be found at concerts or hiking and camping in nature.
