Get to know Blake
Blake Danner was born in Plano, Texas and has lived in the Dallas area most of his life. Since his mom was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis shortly after he was born, he very quickly came to be in a caregiving role for her alongside his dad. Combined with the many, formative ministry experiences he had in college, he has long felt a strong pull toward caring for others in a deep, individualized way. After graduating from Southern Methodist University with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and religious studies, Blake worked at a campus ministry at Louisiana Tech for a year to explore a call to ministry. He further pursued this passion by returning to SMU and obtaining a Master of Divinity at Perkins School of Theology. For several years, he worked in pastoral care settings through hospital chaplaincy and at a church before taking up a more particular pursuit of counseling. Blake finished his Master of Arts in Professional Counseling at Amberton University in November 2021.
Blake believes that we all have the ability within ourselves to take that “next step” in our lives, whatever it may be, but we are often not meant to do that alone. He sees therapy as a place to both explore those roadblocks that might be in our lives as well as discover how to get past those. Since each person comes to therapy with a different story, Blake seeks to guide clients in uncovering—and sometimes rewriting—those narratives through an existential-humanistic approach. Regardless of techniques, he is committed to creating a space where clients can fully be themselves and can expect that they will be listened to with compassion.
Blake lives in Plano with his wonderful wife, Ashley; his dilute tortoiseshell cat, Aubrey; and so many plants. In his free time, Blake enjoys eating practically any kind of food (but especially Japanese!), playing his Nintendo Switch, role playing in a Dungeons & Dragons session led by his wife, and expanding his eclectic music taste just one more degree—from classic rock (Led Zeppelin) to musicals (Hadestown), and from indie (Sufjan Stevens) to video game music (Final Fantasy), he is always on the lookout for that next catchy beat.
