Get to know Samara

Samara is a former student-athlete whose goal is to provide holistic mental health care to clients from all walks of life. She is driven by her passion for social justice, equality, and advocacy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from North Carolina A&T State University and her master’s degree in mental health counseling from Northwestern University. She has experience working with a variety of clients, including those who struggle with anxiety, depression, postpartum disorders, PTSD, racial identity conflicts, pregnancy/early parenthood, and relationships (both monogamous and polyamorous).

Samara earned her certification as a Psychotherapeutic Yoga Clinician in February 2022, which helps provide additional understanding of how trauma manifests in the body and more holistic forms of treatment. She typically approaches her therapy work through a multicultural, psychodynamic lens, but also uses CBT and DBT for additional structure in sessions. She has experience working with a variety of clients, including those who struggle with anxiety, depression, postpartum disorders, ADHD, PTSD, racial identity conflicts, pregnancy/early parenthood, and relationships. Outside of counseling, Samara is also a doula, which gives her an additional perspective when working with pregnant people and new parents. The approach to counseling work and course of treatment are always dependent on what’s best for the client.

In her free time, Samara loves spending time at home with her boyfriend, standard poodle, Delilah, and ball python, Simon. She loves to read, play sports, and spend time with family.
