Get to know Kayla

By creating a judgment-free and honest therapeutic environment that accepts people exactly as they are, Dallas therapist Kayla Owens creates a space that feels supportive and open for clients to explore and discover who they are and what they want from the life they lead. She specializes in helping adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and stress, adolescents dealing with body image issues and identity, and clients who need support healing from trauma and grief

Through a focus on each client's unique worldview and perspective, Kayla encourages them to explore their thoughts and emotions in a way that allows them to open themselves up to greater self-awareness and autonomy. She brings a person-centered approach, mindfulness-based interventions, existential therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive restructuring to the therapy space.

Kayla’s approach is rooted in empathy, respect and an openness to the unique story and experience that each person brings to the table. Her own journey into therapy was fueled by watching her family and those around her go through daily life and past traumas with no tools or coping skills to help them navigate the overwhelming parts of life that weighed them down. Starting with a Lifespan and Development Psychology class in high school, she was hooked, and knew that understanding how the brain worked and connected with our thoughts and experiences was a key part of maintaining good mental health and wellbeing. She is currently completing her Master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she also earned her Bachelor’s in Child and Family Development.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys doing anything outside, from hiking to camping to an outdoor show. She loves finding new restaurants, museums, movie theaters and parks to explore with her dogs, Penelope and Frankie, seeing live music performances, and finding new adventures where she can connect with other people doing what they love and navigating the journey toward personal growth and fulfillment
