Join us for From Surviving To Thriving, What Makes or Breaks The First Year of College, our second virtual workshop in our Launching Well series, This is a supportive, educational group designed for first-year college students and the families who support them, led by our excellent facilitator, Lifeologie Counseling Rockwall therapist and educational/career counselor Chelsea Atwell, LPC.
The transition to college is a huge milestone—exciting, but also sometimes overwhelming, emotionally draining, and even a little lonely. This group offers a real, down-to-earth look at the mental health side of the first year, using current data, real-life stories, and clinical insight to normalize common struggles and reduce stigma around stress, anxiety, and adjustment challenges.
The first year of college is full of stressful situations: new routines, new expectations, and new pressures. In this group, participants will explore what it truly means to thrive during the transition to college, rather than simply getting through it. We'll look at common early warning signs of burnout, anxiety, and emotional disconnection, alongside the markers of healthy coping, resilience, and personal growth that support long-term student success.
Practical Tools for Mental Health and Resilience
This group offers practical, evidence-informed tools designed to support both students and families during the first year of college. Participants will learn coping strategies for managing stress and big emotions, communication skills that strengthen family relationships, and clear guidance on when—and how—to seek additional mental health support. We'll focus on building confidence, emotional awareness, and realistic expectations for college life.
Supporting Independence, Staying Connected
One of the biggest challenges of the college transition is finding the balance between independence and support. Families will gain insight into how to stay meaningfully involved without overstepping, while students will feel empowered to build autonomy with the reassurance of a strong support system behind them. This collaborative approach helps everyone feel more confident navigating the changes ahead.
A Proactive Approach to Support
This group is proactive rather than crisis-focused, making it ideal for families preparing for college or students currently navigating their first year. Attendees will leave with concrete takeaways, including mental health checklists to use before move-in day, conversation starters for ongoing support, and a clearer understanding of campus and community resources.
With a supportive, practical, and nonjudgmental tone, From Surviving To Thriving creates a welcoming space for anyone who wants to approach the first year of college with intention, confidence, and a strong foundation for mental wellness. Choose a convenient morning or evening session!
