About

Nutrition, health and wellness counseling provides a holistic approach to help people who are ready to make long-term changes in pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. Major life events or certain health diagnoses or developments can be a launching pad for us to want to change, but continuing to stay motivated can be difficult without direction and support. Nutrition, health and wellness counselors provide expertise, encouragement and concrete action items that implement healthy behaviors that can last for a lifetime. Wellness counseling is a highly individualized, judgment-free approach to help you get the life you want.

A health and wellness counselor will ask questions about why you want to change and help you explore the underlying causes that may lead you to make unhealthy choices or resist change. They may ask questions about your work habits, spiritual life, family dynamic, friendships and support, hobbies, and stressors.

A nutrition counselor is different from a nutritionist or dietitian, although they may coordinate care with your medical providers, especially if you have critical dietary restrictions, such as limiting sugar or salt. They’ll help you build a healthy relationship with food based on realistic behavioral choices. They won’t shame you or forbid you from eating all the foods that you love - but they will give you tips and tools to help you achieve a healthier approach to meals.

Whole-health wellness counseling involves acknowledging areas in your life that are working well and identifying areas that you want to improve. Therapists use a variety of tools and techniques, including visualization, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, therapeutic yoga, and support groups.
