Holly McFarland was born and raised mostly in Houston, Texas but has lived in several states throughout her life. While she enjoyed the new locations and beginnings, there was always a period of adaptation to her new environment. Fortunately, Holly was raised to understand the importance of maintaining focus on the future and despite life’s obstacles, to continue moving forward with a hopeful mindset. Holly has endured challenges and loss but these experiences have created the resilient individual she is today.
With her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from The University of Houston, Holly spent 26 years as a teacher in the DFW area gaining immeasurable experience working with students. In 2014 Holly obtained a master's degree in School Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. Expanding her passion to serve others, Holly now enjoys working with adults navigating various life changes and relationship/marriage counseling.
Challenges can reveal various characteristics in individuals that can be conveyed through depression, anxiety, avoidance, mistrust and oftentimes a sense of hopelessness. Holly utilizes techniques from various theories and approaches, including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and Choice Theory. She believes in guiding conversations that enable individuals to recognize new ways to approach obstacles they encounter, learn creative communication skills that open the door to new perspectives, and refine ways of actively listening to genuinely hear the needs and concerns of their spouse/partner. Her hope is that individuals will gain a better understanding of self and uncover areas of concerns that can be addressed through the development of goals and plans to attain a happier, healthier, well-balanced life. With every client, Holly strives to ensure their voices are heard and they leave each session with a newfound sense of hope.
In her spare time, Holly enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, the beach, and anything creative. A favorite quote is, “Sometimes when you’re in a dark place, you think you’ve been buried, but actually you’ve been planted.” A favorite bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you-to give you hope.
