Get to know Kaitlin
Kaitlin received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina State University in 2021. She helps her clients discover healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their interpersonal relationships. Kaitlin is particularly interested in working with young adults and LGBTQ+ individuals. She has previous internship experience working with clients around self-image, depression, anxiety, career/academic stress, life transitions, relationship issues, substance use, gender and sexuality, and identity formation. She uses a Cognitive-Behavioral framework and a strength-based approach to inform her practice. This allows the client and counselor to develop an empathic and non-judgemental relationship to improve one's mental well-being.
She aims to provide a safe, affirming, and empowering space for clients to process and make progress. As a queer person, Kaitlin uses her own lived experiences to help create an affirming and non-judgemental space for clients of all cultural backgrounds and identities. She is also consistently seeking ways to further her understanding and become more intersectional and inclusive in her practices. Identity is very personal and fluid and Kaitlin works with people to embrace where they are to improve their overall well-being.
The therapeutic relationship is a partnership, and that her role is to get a better understanding of how you approach life and how that approach helps or hinders goals you hope to achieve. She believes that all behaviors, thoughts, and feelings are rational given the client’s personal life experiences. Kaitlin has experience working with monogamous, ethically non-monogamous, and polyamorous couples and addressing the unique needs of these dynamics. It can feel so difficult to take that first step and reach out to see how we might work together to achieve your goals.
Kaitlin received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in coaching education from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill in 2016. Kaitlin started her career in elementary education and worked with diverse learners in California.
She transitioned from the classroom to work with university students in Washington, DC. She was involved in developing resources to make internships more accessible to first-generation college students, non-native English speakers, neurodiverse individuals, and LGBTQ+ folks. She also has experience in a university LGBTQ+ center working with students, individually and in groups, around coming out, transitioning to college, and advocating for themselves in various environments while maintaining personal safety. She always knew she wanted to work directly with young adults and her previous experiences opened the door to pursue a graduate degree.
During her free time, Kaitlin enjoys reading, painting, and spending time with friends. She is often taking care of her houseplants or binge-watching a new TV series. She also loves to travel and has been to 37 states and 4 countries and hopes to continue to experience new places and cultures.
