Kimberly Staten

Kimberly Staten’s personal view is that ALL human beings encounter “mountain top” and “valley” experiences in their lifetime. Her goal is to assist in the valleys, which may be loss of a loved one, divorce, or mental discomfort. Her approach to helping is solutions-focused and client-centered, meaning you are in charge of the direction of your journey. She believes in creating a safe space for clients where the atmosphere is warm and inviting. She sees individuals ages 12 and up, and specializes in depression, grief, trauma, and LGBTQ+ and multicultural concerns.

Kimberly will be empathetic and challenge you along the way to ensure you meet your goals. She is well versed in working with various culture groups, having worked as a classroom teacher and for a workforce board helping clients who were out of work. As an African American, she may apply some life lessons to the therapeutic process that marginalized culture groups may experience. She is influenced by Jean Piaget’s theories of the 4 stages of cognitive development, noting that understanding that others may share what you are experiencing when they are at the same stage of development may bring a helpful perspective to one’s mental health journey.

She was raised in Detroit, and earned her BS in Organizational Management from Central Michigan University. She is currently completing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health from Lamar University. She gained education certifications in Dallas and received teacher certifications in EC-6^th grades (Early Childhood to 6^th Grade) and a certification in Special Education (K-12). She has nine years’ experience in the education field, where she taught 1^st, 2^nd, and 4^th grades. She has also assisted in the 7^th and 8^th grade special education classroom as a paraprofessional. 

In her free time, Kimberly enjoys traveling, reading, and working out.
