Get to know Tasha

Tasha Cadet is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in North Carolina with a passion for working with young adults and couples during significant life transitions such as adjusting to college, pregnancy and perinatal mental health, and new parenthood experiences. As a therapist of color, her work also involves helping individuals and couples deconstruct and challenge the impacts of systemic oppression, discrimination, racism, and marginalization as it relates to self and cultural identity, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relational conflicts.

Tasha’s approach to therapy is rooted in systemic, humanistic, emotionally focused, and experiential therapy modalities, which allows her to work with all parts of a client’s life, more specifically aiding them to be more attuned with their emotions to develop supportive skills to overcome challenges. She also integrates cognitive-behavioral perspectives to support clients in developing an understanding of the interconnection between their thoughts, emotions, and actions.

Her identity as a second-generation Haitian American drives a desire to support clients through multicultural experiences, honoring and adapting their cultural perspectives and norms to best incorporate their backgrounds into who they are now and how they want to be.

Tasha has always believed in the power of relationships as a source of healing; this belief stems from her own experiences and continues to inspire her work as a psychotherapist to form authentic and collaborative therapeutic relationships based on trust. Leaning into secure relationships as a source of strength also influences her use of attachment and systemic therapy within her work.

Tasha completed her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, then earned her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a graduate certificate in Systemic Multicultural Counseling from Appalachian State University.

During her clinical internships, Tasha provided therapeutic services to individuals, families, and groups within school-based programs, day treatment, intensive in-home services, outpatient programs, and the university campus setting.

She served as a graduate assistant for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Compliance and for the Department of Recreation Management and Physical Education, where she utilized her Wilderness First Responder certification.

After relocating to the Triangle area, she began her work in community mental health, providing enhanced individual and family therapy through intensive in-home services and received training in the Strengthening Families program to provide evidence-based care and case management to at-risk clients and their families during crises.

At one time, Tasha was trilingual, speaking English, Japanese, and Haitian Creole. In her spare time, she enjoys taking on new hobbies, caring for her plants, spending time with her family, her partner, and her cat, Peep, watching anime, reading, and engaging in creative community events with friends.
