Get to know Tammy

As both a counselor and a clinical social worker with more than 20 years experience, Tammy S. Weitzman provides therapeutic services to young adults, individuals, couples, and families who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief/bereavement, mood disorders, and traumatic loss. She has significant expertise working with clients experiencing grief and loss, especially pregnancy loss; loss due to violence and crime; and loss from chronic illness. 

Tammy has dedicated more than 2 decades providing care for people with cancer and mental health needs, and is a recognized leader in the oncology field, working in large cancer hospitals in Canada and in the United States. She has provided presentations and outreach services nationally, as well as locally in North Carolina, where she currently leads grief support groups for parents who have lost a child. 

She draws from evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Behavioral Activation and Trauma Informed Practice. 

Tammy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), and she also provides clinical supervision to Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHCA) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associates (LCSWA).

She received her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work in New York and her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Ryerson University in Toronto. She is a certified clinical supervisor in both North Carolina Washington state, and is certified by Colorado State University’s Center for Loss and Life Transition. 

Tammy is passionate about supporting people after devastating and life-altering loss. She strives to be a supportive, steady presence for all of her clients seeking counseling. Compassion and integrity are at the very core of her practice, honoring the unique path of everyone she encounters.
