Get to know Kate
Katie McBrayer helps couples at all stages acquire healthy communication and conflict resolution skills that will refine and deepen meaningful, enduring connections. She is trained in EMDR, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), Gottman Level 2 couples counseling, Safe Conversations, sex therapy and is a PREPARE/ENRICH relationship counseling facilitator. Katie also supports individuals and families as they untangle the knots that develop from relationship issues, grief, life transitions, parenting, religion, or a general lack of gusto.
Katie uses an emotionally-focused approach to help her clients examine emotions, family systems, and attachment patterns to reconstruct a new way of being in relationships, and often uses Gottman methods to establish behaviors that foster a strong relational foundation. She is passionate about helping couples understand and break the negative cycle that leads to disconnection. EMDR is used with individuals to move negative experiences, thoughts and beliefs to a more adaptive and healthy mind space. She facilitates the discovery and establishment of new patterns and behaviors that will increase interdependence and strengthen emotional bonds.
Katie received her BA in Sociology from Baylor University and earned her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Methodist University. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate (LMFT-A) under the supervision of Melanie Wells, LPC-S, LMFT-S.
Katie spends her free time cooking, traveling, hiking with her dog, Finn, biking, enjoying time with her family and soaking up a sunset.
