Get to know Elizabeth

Elizabeth Barbera is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) who is passionate about helping children, adolescents, adults, and older adults navigate life's challenges while building meaningful, fulfilling lives. Whether you are 5 or 95, Elizabeth is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout your therapeutic journey.

Over the past 10 years, she has worked across many levels of care, providing treatment to individuals with diverse backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. She has extensive experience supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship concerns, life transitions, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, stress, and challenges related to identity, personal growth, and overall emotional wellness. She enjoys working with clients across the lifespan and believes therapy should honor each person's unique story, strengths, and goals.

Before completing her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Dance/Movement Therapy at Lesley University, Elizabeth earned her Associate’s in Community Leadership and Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire.

Elizabeth's therapeutic approach is holistic, person-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in psychoanalytic principles. She believes that healing happens through understanding both our present experiences and the deeper patterns that shape how we relate to ourselves and others. She thoughtfully integrates evidence-based practices with expressive and experiential interventions, recognizing that healing is not always achieved through words alone.

Drawing from her specialized training in Dance/Movement Therapy and expressive arts, Elizabeth incorporates creativity, body awareness, mindfulness, and movement when appropriate to help clients process emotions, strengthen mind-body connection, and develop greater self-awareness. She also incorporates cognitive and insight-oriented interventions, emotional regulation strategies, and strengths-based techniques to help clients build practical coping skills while fostering lasting emotional growth.

Elizabeth understands that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. She collaborates closely with each client to create an individualized treatment plan that aligns with their personality, comfort level, and therapeutic goals. Whether clients are seeking symptom relief, deeper self-exploration, or healthier relationships, Elizabeth strives to provide a space where they feel safe to be authentic, curious, and empowered to create meaningful change.

Outside of the therapy room, Elizabeth enjoys taking dance classes, exploring Boston, spending time with family and friends, and listening to her favorite music. While she is known for her energetic and outgoing personality in everyday life, clients often describe her therapeutic presence as calm, grounding, and compassionate. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for healing and is dedicated to helping every client feel comfortable, connected, and supported from their very first session.
