Get to know Elliot

Elliot Lee specializes in helping older teens, young adults, and adults work through anxiety, depression, trauma, spirituality, family relationships, self-esteem, identity, and anger management issues. Mixing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and contemplative approaches, Elliot is eager to listen to discover resources in your life and witness to challenges you’ve overcome. He will help you work through habit loops that get you stuck with a special eye to your sense of who you are and how you relate to yourself.

As an immigrant to the United States, Elliot faced various cultural, social, and economic challenges during his adolescence, which formed in him a passion for wholeness and well-being. Working through the resulting depression, anxiety, and identity confusion for many years, he came to experience first-hand healing and growth that he now seeks to share with his clients. The experiences of these transformative years form the building blocks of Elliot’s approach.

In therapy, Elliot’s basic commitment is to treat you with unconditional warmth and regard. The safety provided by this softened perception will help you to explore without fear of judgment your core habits and narratives. As Elliot loves to point out: How harsh or gentle is the voice in your head? How different would the world be if that voice that's always with you were more compassionate and understanding? The truth is that our sense of who we are is always bound up with others' perceptions: We learn to love ourselves from being loved. We learn gentleness from being addressed gently. We grow and heal as we hear words that understand and nurture us—not some cheap, premade words, but words born from attuned, heart-to-heart engagement.

Over time fragmented parts of your personality can become whole, depression can turn into acceptance, and anxiety can give way to vitality and a readiness to face life. Who knows? One day you might be able to look back at everything with a lens of gratitude!

Elliot has a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling and is certified in Spiritual Direction from HeartPaths DFW.

During his free time, he enjoys cooking, reading, writing, searching for the next favorite indie rock or ambient record, watching Mixed Martial Arts, and attending Eastern Orthodox services and meditation gatherings. Elliot also works as a caretaker for his dad, who suffers from dementia.
