Get to know Joao

Joao Neto combines a strong background in child welfare and family systems with years of working closely with children, parents, and caregivers navigating complex life situations. He currently serves as a Dallas CASA Supervisor, where he supports and guides advocates in promoting the best interests of children involved in the foster care system. His work has included supporting families through foster care and adoption, addressing parenting challenges, managing crisis situations, and advocating for the well-being of children and families. These experiences have shaped his deep understanding of trauma, attachment, and relational dynamics.

He has experience working with individuals facing anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, and stress-related concerns. Joao also supports clients navigating grief, life transitions, career challenges, and relationship issues, including couples and family dynamics.

Joao offers virtual and in-person sessions at Lifeologie Counseling Oak Cliff. His clinical approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy and holistic practices to ensure that each session is tailored to the client’s unique story, needs, and goals.

Joao earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University and completed training in Biblical Counseling at Christ for the Nations Institute. He is currently completing his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. His background in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) allows him to effectively support parents in building stronger connections with their children and developing practical, trauma-informed parenting strategies.

As an immigrant from Brazil, Joao brings cultural sensitivity and personal insight into the challenges that can come with immigration, identity, and adjustment. He is passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow.

Joao offers Christian counseling for clients who would like to incorporate their faith into the therapeutic process. At the same time, he works with individuals from all backgrounds, beliefs, and identities and does not require or assume a faith-based approach. His use of faith-integrated or biblical principles is always guided by his individual client’s preferences and goals. He also has experience supporting individuals processing church hurt, spiritual trauma, and experiences of church-related abuse, providing a safe and respectful space for healing.

Outside of his professional work, Joao enjoys playing piano and guitar, jamming with friends, trying new restaurants, and continuing his personal and professional development.
