Katherine “Katy” McDaniel specializes in general anxiety and anxiety disorders, family conflict, relationship issues, trauma, major life changes, and unresolved childhood issues that impact current relationships and overall quality of life. She collaborates with clients to identify, process, and manage symptoms of distress, exploring when the disturbance began, its origins, and its impact on one's life. Katy is committed to listening to and supporting her clients' needs as they seek freedom from pain, tension, confusion, and worry.

In her approach to therapy, Katy integrates several evidence-based techniques to provide comprehensive support. She utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address and process trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to manage thoughts and behaviors, Psychodynamic Therapy to explore and resolve underlying emotional conflicts, including the significance of dreams, and mindfulness practices to promote present-moment awareness and emotional regulation.

In 2015, Katy left the corporate world to become a stay-at-home mother and caregiver for her mother, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. This period, influenced by her father's early death, ignited her desire to learn more about mental health and its effects on individuals and families. Katy is passionate about helping individuals with anxiety, focusing not only on its roots in childhood experiences and trauma but also on its impact on relationships, work, and passions. She aims to provide holistic treatment options to address these aspects of life.

Trauma, adverse experiences, and family dynamics play a significant role in shaping how individuals develop and view themselves throughout life. Early experiences with trauma or challenging family situations can affect emotions, self-esteem, and relationships. Understanding these factors can aid in healing and improving overall well-being. If you're seeking support to navigate these issues and find healthier ways to cope, Katy can help address and overcome their effects.

Katy's clinical experience includes providing comprehensive mental health care for adults in private practice and non-profit agencies. She holds a degree in Anthropology from the University of North Texas and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health from the University of North Texas at Dallas. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of Melanie Wells, LPC Supervisor.

Outside of counseling, Katy enjoys spending time with her family, walking in her neighborhood, and going on date nights with her husband. Her favorite foods and drinks include coffee, dark chocolate, ice cream, fruit, and Jif Extra Crunchy peanut butter. Katy likes reading, watching movies, interior design, fashion, uncovering the mysteries of dreams, and exploring the mind-body connection. Raised in Dallas, she and her husband are the parents of two sons and a rescued Siberian Husky.
