Therapist Rosann Raftery is passionate about working with individuals who experience anxiety, because life rarely happens without it nowadays, and supporting clients who are transitioning through different life cycle stages, women balancing life at work and home, and people of the LGBTQ+ community. She is highly trained in utilizing EMDR, especially when related to trauma. (If you’re unfamiliar with EMDR, feel free to ask her about it and how it could benefit you!)
Rosann also offers couples counseling and family therapy to help improve communication skills, heal past wounds, and strengthen relationships.
When you think about your relationship, do you ever wonder “how did we get here?!” If so, then Rosann is definitely the therapist you should connect with. She is a firm believer that each relationship we have in life impacts us in one way or another because, well… they do!
your journey and experience
It is rare that people seek therapy when things are going amazingly well, and because it can be such a difficult time for someone to reach out, Rosann holds this close to her heart. Because she believes that each person’s journey is different and unique to them, and her clients are the experts in their own lives, she wants to help empower them. Therapy can be a difficult process, and uncomfortable at times as things begin to shift, and Rosann is committed to making each step of the process as comfortable as possible for her clients. For Rosann, being a therapist means walking alongside clients through a powerful journey, and she finds it to be a major honor to join people along the way
a journey that began as a teen
Rosann grew up in the Detroit area, and after her first psychology class in high school, she was hooked on how people function and how the mind works. She made her way to Central Michigan University in pursuit of earning a BA in Psychology and learning more about families (fire up, Chips!). After undergrad, Rosann worked with children with autism for a few years, then decided to pursue her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Michigan University… Central and then Western? Yeah… Rosann for sure knows about the huge rivalry, and you’ll have to ask her what side she’s on! Although Rosann misses the major sports teams of Detroit – even when they struggle (hey, we ALL do at some point!) – she is LOVING west Michigan.
the sun, relaxation, gardening, and good food
Rosann definitely enjoys soaking in the sun any chance that she gets. She could be lounging on the beach or out on a lake paddleboarding. Rosann is also an active outdoor gardener of plants and flowers when this Michigan weather allows for it. She loves to be outside on her patio enjoying her yard and nature, as well as curling up with a movie or book and a cup of tea. She also enjoys trying out new restaurants in Grand Rapids and cooking at home.
Rosann is a supportive wife to a loving husband who works as a sales engineer. Even though they have very different careers, they share a love for their family and friends, the outdoors, and traveling. Rosann and her husband are parents of two young boys and are diving into the early stages of parenthood together… which can be a bit of floating, sinking, or keeping a strong pace – as parenthood is ALL of the things. Their sons keep them on their toes and they wouldn’t have it any other way! Being a mother now, Rosann definitely has a different lens of life, herself, and others. She enjoys chasing her boys around, checking out new parks, hitting up the beaches, camping, or winter skating with her family throughout the year.
