Looking for a brief, effective type of therapy in Raleigh or Durham that can help you cope with difficult situations? Join our virtual DBT Skills Group for Adults, an online therapy group that meets every Tuesday night starting February 18, 2025, at 6 pm.
What is DBT?
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) helps people manage intense emotions and interpersonal conflict. It is a structured treatment that typically lasts for several months, and is especially effective for people with Borderline Personality Disorder, OCD, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD), and people who need help coping with difficult situations.
how does it work?
Our North Carolina DBT Skills Group is an online weekly counseling group run like an interactive class, which teaches skills across four main topics: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.
- Mindfulness is designed to teach members how to focus their mind and attention on the present moment, instead of anxious thoughts about the future.
- Distress Tolerance is centered on accepting the current situation and finding ways to survive and tolerate the moment without engaging in problematic behavior.
- Emotional Regulation Skills include learning to identify and label current emotions, identifying obstacles to changing emotions, reducing emotional reactivity, increasing positive emotions, and changing emotions.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills teach members effective strategies for asking for what one needs, saying no, and coping with interpersonal conflict.
Group members complete homework assignments in which they practice the skills taught during each weekly lesson, reinforcing their confidence and abilities to deal with discomfort in daily life.
Our group is led by
Lifeologie Counseling Raleigh's empathetic, experienced therapist (and proud US Army veteran) Dana Washington, LCMHCA. Dana specializes in
collaborative approaches that can help you identify small steps you can learn in therapy and use in the real world to improve your emotional regulation skills and communication within your relationships.
