Elizabeth “Liz” Grady is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Clinical Supervisor (LCMHCS) who is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and a Board Certified Tele-Mental Health (BC-TMH) Counselor.
Liz has been counseling adolescents, adults, and families for twenty years in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Liz earned her master’s degree in Counseling from North Carolina State University (NCSU) in 2002 and has been a practicing counselor since that time. Recently Liz earned her Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education from NCSU and frequently teaches masters-level counseling students as an adjunct professor.
Liz has advanced training in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Liz is most passionate about working with teens and adults who are struggling with life challenges related to stress management, school/employment, relationships, past and present life experiences, including childhood maltreatment and trauma. Liz can help you reduce anxious thoughts, anxious body sensations (nauseous, pounding heart, shaking, sweating), panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, compulsory behavior, repetitive body-focused behavior, phobias, & emotional disturbance associated with common anxiety disorders. Liz’s counseling approach is based on the belief that people are primarily motivated, fulfilled, and healed by connection, understanding, and acceptance by ourselves and by others. As a counselor, Liz listens to understand how sociopolitical factors such as race, gender, and all facets of identity, influence the client’s counseling concerns. Liz applies skilled, active listening, to recognize the cultural meaning clients attach to their lived experiences and to subsequently translate that cultural knowledge to enhance counseling outcomes.
In addition to counseling and teaching, Liz enjoys supervising other counselors and has made this part of her daily work. Helping counselors develop professionally, and enhance their clinical skills, is extremely rewarding for Liz. Liz works to create a collaborative, creative, and fun-loving environment in which to learn.
Liz has presented locally and statewide for organizations like LPCANC (Licensed Professional Counselor Association of North Carolina), and nationally for the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). Liz has been an active member of LPCANC for many years and has served on the board of directors for five of those years. She even served as president!
