Shimya Smith

Shimya has spent over a decade working with people of all ages with intellectual developmental disabilities. Within this population, she has observed a need for therapy. She is enthusiastic about her work with children, adolescents, and neurodiverse individuals. She is also interested in serving multicultural consumers. 

Shimya's origins are in the Caribbean. Her knowledge of the Caribbean enhances Shimya's ability to empathize with multicultural clients.  She believes that everyone requires a safe space to express their emotions. She understands sharing feelings can make it easier to deal with life’s challenges.  She specializes in anxiety management, special needs counseling, and children’s counseling. 

Shimya was born and raised in New York. Shimya relocated to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex four years ago and is enjoying every part of the move. 

She concluded her undergraduate studies with a major in Human Services at Shorter University. She is pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University online. 

Shimya cherishes time spent with her family and friends. She appreciates listening to music and all things of aesthetic beauty. In addition, she appreciates trying new restaurants, watching reality television, and traveling.
