Get to know Courtney

Courtney is a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate (LCMHCA). Courtney was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. She wanted to be an educator since she was in middle school and positively impact children's lives. She received her Associate's degree in Early childhood education in 2012 and her bachelor's degree in birth through kindergarten education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2015. After ten years of teaching in early childhood and elementary classrooms, she realized that supporting students' social-emotional growth and development was the aspect of her job that she enjoyed the most.

Courtney decided to pursue her passion for supporting the mental health of children and adults by earning a master's degree in Mental Clinical Health Counseling from North Carolina State University. She graduated in May of 2023. Courtney continues to work with elementary students as an interventionist. Her experience working with children has highlighted the importance of emotional regulation and supportive environments for children and adolescents to express themselves.

Counseling Approach

Courtney believes in addressing the needs of the whole person. She understands that health-related issues may impact a client's mental health. The therapeutic approaches she uses to support clients' growth and counseling goals are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Courtney uses a multicultural and social justice lens to work with clients and select appropriate interventions. Her goal is to create a safe environment for clients to express their identities fully.

Courtney has an empathetic style of counseling that feels warm and welcoming. She enjoys helping clients explore their values, beliefs, and boundaries. She helps clients identify thoughts and behaviors that may hinder reaching their goals. Courtney specializes in depression, anxiety, assertive communication, life transitions, and stress. She is passionate about working with all age groups- children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Courtney meets with clients virtually and in the Durham Lifeologie office.

Courtney enjoys watching movies, reading and listening to books, and walking in her neighborhood. She likes vacations with her husband and spending time with family and friends. Courtney also spends time listening to true crime and teacher podcasts.

She looks forward to getting to know you!
