Get to know Janette

Janette Walker is a firm believer that you must discover what got you to where you are now to get to the future you desire. She uses Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in her sessions, and she especially enjoys working with women, couples, and those dealing with family-of-origin issues. The client relationship is always at the center of her approach. She collaborates with her clients to build a strong relational foundation so they can discover the things that are holding them back from living their best life.

Through working with people who were hurting in the care ministry at her church, Janette found her passion for counseling, and began college mid-life to pursue this dream. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University Commerce, and is continuing there earning her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

You may be wondering how you got to the place you now find yourself. You wonder if things will ever change for the better. Your story is not written in stone. Janette’s favorite quote is, “You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.”

Janette is a Native Texan and grew up in the Metroplex area. She appreciates the benefits of mental health counseling. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, she herself benefited from counseling in her 20’s to work through childhood trauma. This experience has given her a strong desire to help others discover past hurts as well as how healing can lead to a healthier version of themselves.

Janette has been married for 37 years and has two grown daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good romance novel, traveling, dreaming of future grandchildren, and hugging on her golden retriever, Cooper.
