Get to know Katy

Katy McDaniel specializes in general anxiety and anxiety disorders, family conflict, relationship issues, trauma, major life changes, and unresolved childhood issues that impact current relationships and overall quality of life. She collaborates with clients to identify, process, and manage symptoms of distress, exploring when the disturbance began, its origins, and its impact on one's life. Katy is committed to listening to and supporting her clients' needs as they seek freedom from pain, tension, confusion, and worry.

In her approach to therapy, Katy integrates several evidence-based techniques. She utilizes  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address and process trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to manage thoughts and behaviors, Schema Therapy to identify long-held beliefs shaped by past wounds and unmet needs, Psychodynamic Therapy to explore and resolve underlying emotional conflicts, including the significance of dreams, and mindfulness practices to promote present-moment awareness and emotional regulation.

Before becoming a therapist, Katy worked in both production and operations within finance and banking. That role required sharp instincts, composure under pressure, and the ability to both support leadership and think strategically behind the scenes. She knows the exact point where determination turns into depletion and what it costs to keep going anyway. Now she helps clients reach their goals without losing themselves—staying ambitious without burning out, and grounded enough to know when to hold steady and when to let go.

In 2015, Katy stepped away from the corporate world to be a stay-at-home mom to her boys and to take care of her mother during her terminal illness. Losing her father suddenly as a child gave her an early understanding of how trauma can rearrange a family overnight. After her mother passed, she returned to school to pursue clinical training, earning her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas at Dallas. She also holds a degree in Anthropology from the University of North Texas, adding a broader lens to her understanding of human behavior and relational systems.

Trauma and family dynamics influence how individuals feel, respond, and relate—sometimes subtly, sometimes loudly. Not everything that hurts is obvious, and not all reactions make sense until we understand where they started. Katy helps clients make those connections so what once felt automatic can finally become a choice.

Outside of counseling, Katy enjoys spending time with her family, walking in her neighborhood, and going on date nights with her husband. She really enjoys coffee, dark chocolate, and Jif Extra Crunchy peanut butter. Katy likes reading, watching movies, interior design, fashion, uncovering the mysteries of dreams, and exploring the mind-body connection. Raised in Dallas, she and her husband are the parents of two sons and a rescued Siberian Husky.
