Get to know Elaine
Licensed Professional Counselor Elaine Ferguson Coleman grew up on a ranch in East Texas. As an artist, poet, and writer, she brings an artistic and playful approach to her psychotherapy practice at Lifeologie Counseling Cedar Hill, where she enjoys working with children, teens, and adults to process big feelings through creating art.
As an artist, Elaine has experienced firsthand the power of creative expression in clarifying emotions and unveiling new perspectives. Along with expressive art therapy, she also loves play therapy, an effective method of communication in the therapy room. When we think of play, we often associate it with children. But why should they have all the fun? Play isn’t just child’s play; it’s a powerful, universal language and a fundamental part of human nature, regardless of our age.
Elaine has worked with people ranging in age from 3 to 73 years old. She has counseling experience with children, adolescents, adults, group therapy, inpatient clients, intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization program (PHP) clients, and as a public health researcher to prevent suicide on college campuses. She holds certificates in Trauma-Informed Care Training, QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Certificate, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Skills for Psychological Recovery, and Psychological First Aid Online.
Elaine earned her undergraduate degree in English Literature with a Specialization in Creative Writing and a minor in Studio Art from Southern Methodist University. She earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas at Dallas.
