Get to know Trey

Trey has lived in Frisco for over 15 years, and just as the city has blossomed in that time, so has he. An active and sport-loving kid, Trey’s life took a turn after being diagnosed with a chronic pain and fatigue condition as a teenager. This illness led to many dark nights, but through counseling of his own, a strong family support system, and God’s grace, he was able to achieve goals he didn’t think were possible. Even though this was a painful experience, it ultimately led Trey into the counseling profession and sparked an earnest desire to help others facing seemingly hopeless situations. Since Trey lives in the day to day experience of chronic pain and fatigue, he recognizes that instilling hope is crucial to help clients in whatever situation they are facing. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Religion from Liberty University, he obtained his master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. He also completed his internship at LifePath Systems in McKinney, TX where he aided clients in improving their depression and anxiety.

Life brings forth many difficulties and triumphs no matter who you are, or the background you may have. Trey believes that each person has innate strengths that can help them overcome the obstacles in their path. To help deal with the trials that life brings, his personal counseling approach aligns with person-centered therapy. Emphasizing an importance in the therapeutic relationship between counselor and client, he believes lending a non-judgmental ear is key to helping client’s reach the goals they have. Trey’s collaborative approach recognizes that therapy works best when the client is invested and has input in the counseling process.

Whether the client is a child, teen, or adult, Trey strives to help each person strengthen their relationships with themselves and others, improve their mental health, and learn how to cope with and overcome difficulties. Some of the therapeutic approaches he also uses include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and existential therapy.

Trey specializes in working with people who have chronic illness/chronic pain, depression, anxiety, individuals, children, teens, and Christian counseling. With over a decade of experience instructing children aged 4-15 in basketball at the Frisco Rec Center, he also recognizes the importance of collaborating with parents in support of meeting a child’s goals. With a background of growing up in the church, and an education in biblical studies and theology, Trey is also open to utilizing faith-based counseling to those who desire it.

In his free time Trey enjoys relaxing with friends and family, reviewing music on his YouTube channel, exploring the fascinating world of cinema, and watching his beloved Dallas Mavericks.
