Get to know Lissete

If you’re looking for a creative, flexible therapist who specializes in helping children and teens express their feelings, supports first-generation students and young adults navigating major life transitions, and speaks Spanish and English fluently, Oak Cliff therapist Lissete Mendez may be the perfect fit for you!

A former preschool teacher, Lissete brings empathy and experience to her work with children ages 6 and up with behavioral problems, emotion regulation issues, family difficulties, or who may be struggling in school. She also specializes in supporting teens with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, and young adults with cultural identity and relationship issues. She often uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression, mindfulness for anxiety, and play therapy for the many challenges children experience at school and at home.

As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, Lissete has seen first-hand the difficulties that can arise from being a first-generation student, informing her approach to young adults who may be experiencing the stress of being the first in their family to go to college and find a career. Understanding how hard it can be to navigate a world that is unfamiliar to those around you, she helps children, adolescents, and young adults acquire the skills that allow them to live a better quality of life.

Lissete received her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology from The University of North Texas at Dallas.

She enjoys spending time with her family and partner, as well as with her dog. She loves to read, listen to true crime podcasts, and watch scary movies. She also  enjoys shopping, attending concerts, spending time outdoors, and traveling. Lissete is someone who loves to laugh and you might find her cracking jokes (bad ones) every now and then to get others laughing too.

For as long as she can remember, Lissete has been fond of helping those around her in any way she possibly can. It’s the main reason she decided to become a therapist. She believes being a part of someone's journey in living a more meaningful life is a blessing and truly a wonderful feeling.

Lissete is currently accepting new clients at Lifeologie Counseling Oak Cliff.
